Split Rock Review is an online, not-for-profit literary journal founded in 2012 by Crystal S. Gibbins. Its name is inspired from the state park and historical landmark located along the North Shore of Lake Superior in Minnesota.
Split Rock Review's mission is to provide a venue for writers and artists of any background, in any stage of their careers, to showcase their best work. We publish poetry, short creative nonfiction, hybrids, graphic narratives, comics, reviews, interviews, photography, and artwork that explore place, environment, and the relationship between humans and nature. We like the wild, profound, and quirky. We get excited by work that challenges, provokes, pushes boundaries, and disrupts forms and conventions.
Journal issues are published in the spring and fall. Split Rock Review also publishes poetry chapbooks and other print editions. We nominate contributors’ work for most major awards and anthologies.
To those who heed the call of the woods, kick off your boots and settle in.
